Crabs and how to catch them

In my opinion Blue crabs are the best tasting crabs hands down. At over 20 dollars a dozen I cant afford to eat them LOL, but who needs to bay when its relatively easy to catch them yourself..

There are 2 ways to go about catching crabs

1. Netting
This is my favorite way to catch blue crabs all it takes it a net and the beach, in the bay and along the rivers are best places to catch them. But I have caught plenty right out in the gulf. SW Florida is a giant beach but your not going to catch much on the beaches were all the people are swimming. Hears the basic idea find a beach with minimal people and preferably more grass in the water than sand. Knowing when the tide is in or out can be really helpful also, when the tide is on its way out is the best time. Get in to the water about knee deep if you get any deeper you wont be able to swing the net after them. The crabs will normally be sunbathing on the edge of the grass and the sand spots but a good eye is key hear. When you see one don’t just run up to it and try and scoop on top of it get your net in the water and slowly move in they move side to side and there fast so as soon as they start to move you will no what direction there going to run. But be quick because if they get into the long grass you will lose them. After a couple misses you will learn your own technique but netting can have great rewards. (Note: if your going to grab a crab grab it behing the back fins
his front claws cant pinch there or behind both claws at the same time
but be careful they will get you) I have caught  over 3dozen crabs
on the beach in about 2 hours
it took me 4 or 5 days to get that
many with 5 crab pods.

2 crab pods
Crab pods are great! if you have a boat they can bring in a lot of crabs. But don’t think your just going to drop one in and tomorrow come back and it will be overflowing with crab (if that happens then call me as soon as you pull the first pod up, ill be there in a min) chances are your going to have to go out every 2 days or so and work your pods around and pull a couple crabs out, but sometimes you do get lucky and get a handful in one pod that’s when it can be really great to have pods. This is the standard type of pod that most people use around hear but there a probably 50 different types that you could use and they will all work
